Thought I would share online the lesson plan for the first term of art classes. Below is a short description followed by the artwork attempted in class. The lesson plan is indicative, and sometimes things can change depending on interests and aptitude on the day.

Week 1:

Introduction to watercolours
Simple drawing
Mixing and creating colours
Understanding the transparent nature of watercolours
Introduction to brush types
Brush techniques and pigment application
Week 2:

Basic drawing and shading
3D object drawing
Shadow casting – understanding light effects
Week 3:

Introduction to acrylic paints
Simple drawing
Mixing paints on palette
Painting deep and shallow waters
Colour blending (painting clouds)
Brush techniques and pigment application
Week 4

Watercolours – Class 2
Simple drawing
Creating effects with two colours
Wet on dry painting
Colour splashing
Week 5:

Uses of graphite pencils
Degrees of hardness
Drawing reflections on water
Light and shadow observation
Shading techniques
Week 6:

Acrylic painting – Class 2
Recognize colour, tone and paint quality in the structure and mood of a painting
Drawing different shapes
Brush techniques and pigment application
Week 7:

Watercolours – Class 3
Drawing simple shapes
Drawing palm trees
How to draw and paint an evening sky
Painting reflections with water colours
Week 8:

Drawing object from observation
Pattern and equidistant drawing
Drawing spheres
Shading techniques

Acrylic painting – Class 3
Drawing irregular shapes like flowers
Understanding tones of same colour
Brush techniques for slightly more advanced painting
In the final week we would be preparing a mixed media art piece. Students employ creativity to create the art work. The class may involve,

Painting on stones, clay pots etc.
Layering of mediums.
Paint spreading.
Experimenting with collages.
Exploration of non visual elements.  

Since the class is to encourage creativity and imagination in preparing the art work the finished piece might be different for each student.
